How to Set Up Account

You're going to want to set up your Top Hat account on a computer before downloading the mobile app.

1. Log into Canvas, which can be accessed from the apps.ithaca.edu 
2. Once you've logged in, navigate to your course site.
3. On the left-hand side of your Canvas course, you'll find the Top Hat tool link.
4. Click on this link.
5. If this is your first time using Top Hat make sure you sign up for a new account.
   • If there is a possibility that you may drop the class that is using Top Hat make sure you sign up for the seven-day free trial before buying a subscription code.
6. Your subscription code should be purchased through the IC bookstore before creating an account. To redeem the subscription code, navigate to the "redeem here" button within the yellow box. The subscription code should be a series of nine to fourteen letters.
7. Since you set up your account through this Canvas course site link you have automatically enrolled in the course.

Once inside the Top Hat app you will notice that there are three sections: lecture, assigned, and grade book.

Lecture is where you will go during the class period

Assigned is where you will find homework questions and review

Gradebook is where you will find your grades and attendance record.

By clicking on the X at the top left of the screen you will be able to access your course lobby. The next time that you log in to Top Hat you'll be able to sign in through Ithaca College's single sign on feature using your Netpass credentials to log in.

Now you can download the mobile app on Google Play store or the App Store. 

Where to Buy Subscription Code

You should see Top Hat listed in your required materials on the Ithaca College Online Bookstore (Akademos). 

Your instructor will let you know if you should purchase a subscription for one semester or the year.
