How To: Block or Allow Senders in Outlook on the Web (Office 365 Email)

If you are receiving unwanted email messages, or not receiving wanted email messages, managing your blocked and safe senders lists can help in Outlook on the Web.

How to Block or Allow Senders

Note that the instructions might be slightly different depending on the version of Outlook you are using.

  1. Sign in to Office 365 email with your Ithaca College email credentials.
  2. Click the gear icon  at the top right of the window.
  3. In the Search Outlook settings field type "block".
  4. Click the Blocked senders and domains setting that appears below the search box.
  5. To always block messages from a sender, under Blocked senders and domains, click the + Add button and type the email address in the "Example:" area then press Enter on the keyboard.
  6. To always allow messages from a sender, under Safe senders and domains, click + Add button and type the email address in the "Example:" area, then press Enter on the keyboard.
  7. Optionally, review both lists for any email addresses that should not be on them. If addresses are found, click the delete icon to the right of the email address. If you would like to edit the email address, click the edit icon which looks like a pencil, located to the left of the delete icon. Type in the correct address and press Enter Be sure to click Save at the top of the window.

If you are having difficulty finding a message that should appear in your inbox, you may check the Quarantine section of your account to see if it is in a "hold" outside of your inbox.

  1. Sign into the Security & Compliance center with your Ithaca College email credentials.

In here, you can select messages with the tick box on the left of the message and either release, preview, or delete the message with the options pane that appears on the right.
