Quick Guide: Enroll Shared Accounts in Self Service Password Reset (SSPR)

Using SSPR with shared / departmental accounts is largely the same as using it with a personal account, but there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • You must still use your personal (non-IC) email if you choose to use email as one of the reset options
  • You must individually set this up for different accounts you have (so if you control two different departmental accounts, you must configure it for both of them)

To enroll your shared account in Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)

  1. Log into https://aka.ms/ssprsetup with your shared account credentials
    1. If you are already logged in with your own account in the browser, click the My Account (person icon) at the top right of the page and then click Sign in with a different account.
      1. Alternatively you could open the page in "InPrivate" or InCognito" mode to avoid any confusion with your personal account.
    2. you must use the user name format: username@ithaca.edu even if the shared account is not used for email access
    3. Logging in will bring you to: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info for the shared account
  2. Enroll the account in SSPR be selecting two of the three reset options below.

Select two of the three options below

To update your SSPR verification information

Phone or Email

You can only have one primary phone number and one email address associated with your account at a time. To change the phone number or email used, click Change to the right of the method you wish to update and enter in the new phone number or email address you wish to use. If you no longer want to use that authentication method, click Delete instead, and confirm your choice when prompted. You can always re-add this authentication method later if desired.

Authenticator App

You can have multiple authenticator apps connected to your account if desired. If you wish to add a new authenticator app (such as with a new phone or tablet), you do not need to remove the old one. Follow the above instructions for adding an authenticator app. If you are no longer using the app or device, click Delete to the right or the authenticator you wish to delete, and confirm when prompted.
