Using SSPR with shared / departmental accounts is largely the same as using it with a personal account, but there are a few things to keep in mind:
- You must still use your personal (non-IC) email if you choose to use email as one of the reset options
- You must individually set this up for different accounts you have (so if you control two different departmental accounts, you must configure it for both of them)
To enroll your shared account in Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)
- Log into https://aka.ms/ssprsetup with your shared account credentials
- If you are already logged in with your own account in the browser, click the My Account (person icon) at the top right of the page and then click Sign in with a different account.
- Alternatively you could open the page in "InPrivate" or InCognito" mode to avoid any confusion with your personal account.
- you must use the user name format: username@ithaca.edu even if the shared account is not used for email access
- Logging in will bring you to: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info for the shared account
- Enroll the account in SSPR be selecting two of the three reset options below.
Select two of the three options below
- Click + Add method and select Phone, then click Add
- Fill out your phone number, including area code. Make sure to select the correct country code (1 for USA).
- Microsoft will then send an SMS text message* to your phone with a six-digit code.
- Click Next and enter the code on your computer. Once entered, click Next again.
- Be sure to enroll at least one other method. You'll need to verify by two methods to reset your password.
*Alternatively, you can have it call that phone number instead of texting. Select “Call me” and click Next for it to call your phone. Once called, it will ask you to press the " # " key on your phone to verify.
- Click + Add method and select Email, then click Add.
- Type in your personal non-IC email address ("alternate email") and click Next.
- In the email account you entered, look for a message with the subject “Ithaca College account email verification code,” which contains a code.
- Type the code you received into the SSPR enrollment page and click Next to complete adding your email verification method.
- Be sure to enroll at least one other method. You'll need to verify by two methods to reset your password.
Adding an authenticator app for SSPR is distinct from using the Duo Mobile App to log into email and other systems. Microsoft assumes you'll want to add their Microsoft Authenticator app for SSPR, but you could add Duo Mobile, or others instead. If you're unsure about setting up an app for SSPR, you can configure phone and email above.
- On your computer, click + Add method and select Authenticator app, then click Add.
- You will be prompted to install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
- (Step 2 below will walk you through installing the app adding your IC account to it.)
- Click Next to say you've installed the app, and then click Next again when it asks you to start setting up the account on your phone, and it should show you a QR code.
- On your phone, install the Microsoft Authenticator App if you don't already have it, and then open the app.
- Click Add Account.
- (If you already have another account set up, you'll need to click on the menu on the top right ( ⋮ ), then click Add account.)
- Select Work or School Account and log in with your IC account, or select Scan a QR code.
- This will open a camera on your phone, point it at the displayed QR code on your computer to attach your account.
- On your computer, click Next and it will send a test notification to your phone,
- On your phone, click Approve to verify it’s working.
- Click Next once more on your computer, to successfully add the authenticator app.
- Be sure to enroll in at least one other method. You'll need to verify by two methods to reset your password.
If you set up the authenticator app and not a phone number, you may require service desk assistance if you need to re-enroll your authenticator: this could occur if your reset your phone or move to a new mobile device. For this reason, we recommend you add both to the account.
To update your SSPR verification information
Phone or Email
You can only have one primary phone number and one email address associated with your account at a time. To change the phone number or email used, click Change to the right of the method you wish to update and enter in the new phone number or email address you wish to use. If you no longer want to use that authentication method, click Delete instead, and confirm your choice when prompted. You can always re-add this authentication method later if desired.
Authenticator App
You can have multiple authenticator apps connected to your account if desired. If you wish to add a new authenticator app (such as with a new phone or tablet), you do not need to remove the old one. Follow the above instructions for adding an authenticator app. If you are no longer using the app or device, click Delete to the right or the authenticator you wish to delete, and confirm when prompted.
Remember; to be able to use SSPR to reset your password or unlock your account, you must have enrolled at least two methods listed here.
