Common Issues

OneDrive from time-to-time may encounter syncing issues. The following are the most common:

Duplicate File Names

If a file is duplicated in OneDrive with your computer name added to the filename, your credentials may need to be refreshed. Find out more about duplicate file names >

Invalid Characters

The following characters cannot be used as file or folder names in OneDrive: " * : < > ? / \ | If OneDrive detects a file or folder with invalid characters, it will attempt to resolve it. If OneDrive is unable to resolve the problem, you will need to rename the file or folder to continue the syncing process.

IT has provided a tool in the Self Service application on your macOS that will automatically rename files and folders that have invalid characters.

  1. Open the Self Service application in macOS.
  2. Under "OneDrive Fix Invalid Characters," click Run.

Pending Sync

If OneDrive shows “Processing changes" for a long time, it could be because you have an online file open, lots of files stuck in a queue, or a very large file syncing. Find out how to resolve this >
