Fixing Kaltura 3rd Party Cookies Error on Browsers and iOS Devices

Safari Browser
If you're using the safari web browser to access Sakai media tools, you might get an error message that asks you to allow  third party cookies.  Here's how to change your settings to allow things to work.

Safari 11.1.2

In the safari web browser, access the top menu and click on Safari.  Then, select Preferences.  A new window will appear with tabs for different settings.  Select the Privacy setting and un-check the "Prevent cross-site tracking" checkbox (see image below). Then quit and restart the browser.

Older versions of Safari

Select the Privacy setting and then look at the first set of items under Cookies and website data.  You will most likely see that it is set to "allow from websites I visit", but you will need to select the "always allow" button to make things work (see image below). Then quit and restart the browser.

Once you make that change simply close the popup window in the upper left-hand corner and refresh your browser.  You should now see your media library and can start using the media tools.

Safari on iPad
If you're using Safari on your iPad, you can change your settings to allow third party cookies.  Follow these steps:

Select the "Settings" icon on your iPad.

Internet Explorer Browser

If you're using the Internet Explorer browser, you might get an error about third party cookies being enabled. You can cahnge the settings on the browser to allow media tools to work.  Please follow these steps:

In the upper right-hand corner of the browser, you will see a settings button that looks like a gear icon.  Click that icon and then select "Internet options".

The first thing to select is the "Override automatic cookie handling" checkbox.  Then, click the "Prompt" setting in the Third-party Cookies area.  This setting will generate a warning, prompting you that third party cookies need to be allowed.  When you are browsing you will see these warnings.  It's important to stay safe online and not select "Accept" here, because some third party software could contain malware which can harm your computer, or more importantly try to obtain your personal data.  Selecting Prompt is the better alternative.

The final checkbox is to "Always allow session cookies".  The session cookie is stored in temporary memory and is not retained after the browser is closed. Session cookies do not collect information from the users computer.  Once you are done with your selections, click ok.  Now you should be able to use the media tools in Sakai without being blocked by your browser.
